As a mom, you continuously put others before yourself.
Every day, you are called upon to selflessly meet the needs of your family. You are awake at night nursing a baby. You prepare a meal after a long day at work. You spend your time and money on less-than grateful teenagers.
It’s January. Like many mothers, you write down your goals for the new year. You set intentions for your kids. You’re committed to following through. This year, for sure, things are gonna be different!
But often, when we set goals for ourselves, we fail to anticipate the challenges and the roadblocks along the way. Life gets chaotic and messy. You are frustrated and tired. Getting through each day takes all the energy you’ve got.
All mothers know this feeling. You’re not alone. And there are some tools that will help you stay in the game when the going gets tough.
1. Be Willing to be Uncomfortable
Honour the struggle. Understand that the struggle is there to make you better. Have reverence for it. Wherever you are, whatever you are going through, show up fully. That’s when you can truly gauge and sense what’s going on around you. Only then will you be able to make an informed choice.
2. Trigger Your Commitments
To stay committed to your goals, you need something to trigger the commitment. It is easy to give up when you are frustrated and tired. Put reminders on your phone so that they pop up as an alarm. Write your commitments, your goals, on a card, your mirror, and your car dashboard, put them in your wallet or purse. Having things on your calendar that you show up for a consistent basis is crucial to your success. When you have clarity and focus on your mission every day, you will stay the course.
3. Develop Habits and Mindset to Help You Stay in the Game
This year, give yourself the gift of a directed mind. Spend each day reading an inspiring book or watching a short movie that motivates you. Develop habits that help you become happier, more focused, and productive.
As we start this new year, we want to give a shout out to all the mothers out there. You’re doing incredible work! The steps above can help you stay strong, confident, and focused.
You’ve got this!
